Emile Saba, Artistic Director of ASHTAR Theatre in Ramallah, has worked on productions including Guernica: Gaza. His latest play, 2077 WHO WANTS TO SURVIVE, is being performed in London as part of the PalArt Festival this weekend.

Yasmin Shalaldeh, an actor, creative producer and educator from Jerusalem, has performed with the Palestinian National Theatre, The Freedom Theatre, Al Kasaba and ASHTAR. She is also the founder of Nuwa, a new home for independent artists in Palestine. She joins us from London, where she is performing in El-Manshiyyeh with El-Hakawati at the PalArt Festival.

Veteran journalist and author Victoria Brittain speaks to Palestine Deep Dive’s Jehan Alfarra about the long shadow of Guantánamo Bay and the so-called “War on Terror”, and what its legacy reveals about Gaza today.

Brittain has spent decades reporting from Vietnam, Africa, the Middle East and Palestine. Her book Shadow Lives: The Forgotten Women of the War on Terror explored the lives of women and families left behind when men were imprisoned without charge, often in systems built around secrecy, exceptional law and indefinite detention.

The conversation explores what Guantánamo represented, how extraordinary measures can gradually become normalised, and the striking and frightening parallels with the treatment of Palestinians today.

If Palestinians could vote tomorrow in a presidential election, poll after poll suggests that if he ran, Marwan Barghouti—who has been imprisoned by Israel for more than 24 years and is serving multiple life sentences—would win.

After working at Apple for ten years, Tariq says he was fired after advocating for Palestine and challenging the company’s relationship with Israel. He also shares why the fight is deeply personal to him, following the loss of 49 family members in Gaza.

History is not only about commemorating victims of genocide after the fact. It is also about recognising warning signs before it is too late.

Long before the Holocaust, the German Empire carried out one of the first genocides of the twentieth century. In what is now Namibia, German colonial authorities dispossessed the Herero and Nama peoples of their land, wealth and freedom. When the Herero rose up against decades of colonial violence and oppression in 1904, Germany responded with a campaign of extermination that displaced and starved tens of thousands.

Ahmed Alnaouq explores the lessons of the Herero and Nama genocide and asks what responsibility we have when confronted with mass suffering in our own time.
