Who is the UK’s PM-in-waiting Andy Burnham? And what does his political record tell us about the next British government?
In this episode of The Deep Dive, Ahmed is joined by investigative journalist Matt Kennard to examine Andy Burnham’s political career, from his time under New Labour and his vote for the Iraq War, to his positions on Israel, Palestine, the NHS and the future direction of British politics.
Kennard reflects on why Burnham’s record matters more than his public image, and what his potential leadership could mean for issues including Gaza, foreign policy and the wider political landscape in Britain.
The conversation also explores the state of British democracy, the decline of traditional party politics, the rise of the Green Party, and whether a new political movement can emerge outside the Labour–Conservative system.

Thank you Ahmed and Matt, a very welcome thought-provoking conversation.
Unfortunately its equal to blindly throw weight behind the Greens under Kennard's offer that "what other alternative is there?" which BTW is not an actual argument FOR - it is mere shrugging shoulders.
The powers that be have a gazillon ways of duping voters and "Green" parties in Europe are among those. You only have to look at the Green Party in Germany and how they said one thing,t then once in coalition govt the leaders decloaked as warmongers who didnt give a fig about the environment. Baerbock then exits stage left into a cush job.
In Norway's past election the Green accumulated a swing vote in an election where the electorate was clearly demaning progressive left politics. The Greens there simpl and handed power to a "Labour" govt that has governed as warmongers that dont care about the environment. The green party leader there that fronted the election then suddenly slides off to "take care of her family".
These Green parties in Europe are designed to stop a real independent political movement of the center left, from ever developing.
Stop getting duped.
