The arrest warrant is being sought by UK-based Global Legal Action Network and the Belgium-based Hind Rajab Foundation. GLAN’s director Gearóid Ó Cuinn has said that, “Sa’ar is directly linked to mass death, destruction and suffering in Palestine; we have submitted extensive evidence detailing his role in, and awareness of this”.
However, GLAN also tweets that Sa'ar may be attempting to flee the UK today, cutting short his trip potentially over fears of facing accountability.
The submission for an arrest warrant argues that Sa'ar is criminally responsible for the Israeli military's attack on the Kamal Adwan Hospital late last year.
It also states he is implicated in the detention and torture of Dr Hussam Abu Safiya, the hospital's director, who was taken captive during the raid.
